Croatian House

The Croatian House is the home of the Croatian American Society and is the cornerstone of the Croatian community in the New Orleans area.  Weekly activities will be held at the Croatian House with the intent of preserving the Croatian heritage and strengthening membership bonds within the organization.  Those activities include the annual Croatian Festival in the spring, the annual Croatian Dance in the fall, sporting event watch parties, holiday events, card nights, ladies' luncheons, language classes, cooking classes, and "Friday Morning Coffee" time. The Croatian House celebrated its grand opening on Saturday, September 23, 2023, in Belle Chasse, with a visit from the President of Croatia Zoran Milanović on hand to cut the symbolic ribbon. The 9,000-square-foot steel and stone building is built in a Croatian style and includes a great hall, indoor kitchen, bar, outdoor pavilion and kitchen for roasting lamb and grilling oysters.

The Croatian American Society was founded in 1991 as "Louisiana Citizens for a Free Croatia." After directly supporting the new nation in the early years of the organization, the Croatian American Society has changed over time into an organization that preserves and promotes Croatian culture in southeastern Louisiana. The organization is an active participant at several local festivals, featuring local delicacy grilled oysters and handmade Croatian desserts.  Local businessman Anthony “Tony” Cibilich is the current President of the organization's fourteen-member Board of Directors.

The new Croatian House is located at 220 Croatian Way in Belle Chasse. To join the Croatian American Society, email casnola@gmail.com or visit www.CroatianAmericanSociety.com.
